the egg and i

The egg is my friend.  It is a small oval mouthful of nourishment and only costs me 2 points per egg.

What are points?  Why that is the balance of food in numerical equivalent I am allowed to ingest every day.  Twenty nine points total.  To stay alive.

And healthy.

In simpler terms, I became a Weight Watcher a week ago.  And that was also 2.8 pounds ago.  I am told by experts in success that the best way to succeed with a plan is to announce it.  Make it public.  The more people you tell the better your chance of success.

So I am announcing it: By the end of this year I will be a healthier person.


I guess this means if I don't succeed, I will be eating a lot of crow.

But I really prefer eggs to crow.  So I will continue to murder eggs and masticate their small oval bodies.

I will become known as the serial eggster.

Beware eggs.  I am coming to get you.  And boil you.  And peel you.

*Side note here:  I got a great tip from the leader at the Weight Watchers meeting last week.  "Boil your eggs, leave just a tiny bit of cold water in the pot after you cook them.  Then put a lid on the pot and shake the dickens out of them.  (Yes, she really said dickens.)  When you open the pot, voila, the eggs are peeled."

Sounds too good to be true, eh?


IT WAS.  When I opened up my little dickens shaken pot, I looked inside with excited anticipation.

And saw what looked like puked-up eggs in a pot.

I wretched.  Then threw them away.  Boiled some more eggs.

PEELED said eggs.  And ate them.  Two points each.  Four points total.  Breakfast.  For someone who never eats breakfast, it was a rough start...

But 2.8 pounds later those eggs are paying off.

So beware eggs...you can run, but you can't hide.

  3. @Thom Brown thanks, this has been a long time coming...to be healthy in my old age, which isn't that far off, is a goal I feel I can achieve...and be able to better keep up with the grandkids! :D

    On another note - the damn Weight watchers points diet! I have memories of sitting in a team of girls at work once for months listening to them as they embarked on their points journey...that stuff is what nightmares is made of!

  11. Oh Cath I'm sorry for laughing but this has given me the best laugh I've had in days. I'm with you on this one. I'm hoping to make a start on weight gain over the summer. I've only managed to get to the pool twice and friends keep bringing me pastries. But I've forsaken chocolate in favour of cherries. Seriously, good luck with Weightwatchers. I went years ago. Now if I make up my mind I can do it on my own, it's screwing my courage to the sticking place is the most difficult bit. You've done that.

  12. Good for you. Diet stories abound so if you can make them funny the way you do, I'm only too happy to read about them. They tell you to share your diet to make you stick to it, but it can also be a boring subject - another diet, yawn - unless you have a humorous take on it. "So I will continue to murder eggs and masticate their small oval bodies." Wow! Last time, I preferred not to tell anyone and just waited until people noticed. That was much more satisfying.

    Loved the visuals. My cousin is on a similar diet and she has to make it public so that we don't drag her to every pizza and burger joint and we don't force her to have just "one small bite".

    Murder eggs sounds a little harsh; just put them in the water and shut your ears; won't listen to cries of pleas!

  23. Those egg faces are too cute!! Hhahaha! But I love eggs too much to spare them. I'm not on weight watchers but have also been trying to be healthier and lose some lbs. Eggs are God-sent don't you think? I can't have bfast without them and my salads would be too boring if it weren't for them (and bacon, lol!).     Ok I am a wise old egg boiling guy here. I always keep a dozen hard boiled eggs in the fridge and like to have another 24 fresh eggs awaiting me too. I've never heard of the egg pan shake deal. It takes me all of about 5 seconds to strip my hard boiled egg naked, lol. Stick with my traditional undressing and stop shacking your pans. :)

  26. 2 point eggs, been there/done that! Still doing it. (1.4 lbs down this week). Anyway here's a better egg tip for you... put the eggs in the pot, cover with water, bring pot to a boil and then turn off the heat. Cover the pot for 15 minutes, then drain. THEN shake the dickens out of them! It really does work :)

  29. @charlie nitric I strip em naked at work, and I try to keep a few hard boiled on hand too. I think eggs are one of the easiest foods to deal with, and have lots of benefits.
